I went a month back and this club had some great people and a great atmosphere. The drinks were reasonably priced, The live band was great and the DJ was Ok for what he played, I'd much rather prefer DJ Lora or Mr Groove when it comes to latin nights but that's me, I always prefer DJs that do more when they mix. They also have great lessons for first time dancers singles and couples alike. Get there early if you are wanting lessons, I think 8? The club gets fairly packed with plenty of good looking guys and girls that just want one thing.... To dance (What sdid you think I was going to say?) LOL

I noticed there aren't any reviews on here since 2006 so I thought an update was needed. I just spent a good portion of my Saturday evening here (May 2008) and had a great time. I am still trying to learn how to Salsa so this seemed like a good place to go. Key tip if you are new to Salsa - arrive at the club at 8:00 p.m. and get lessons with Rachel. She's fabulous and you'll have lots of fun in this period of time before the club opens. For $20 as a couple we got admitted and almost an hour of instruction - pretty good deal. You can also hang out after lessons sipping margaritas on the patio before it gets crowded. Margaritas are also great - decent size and wel done. After about 10:30 the dance floor does get very crowded with the hard core Salsa crowd, but there's an overflow area of sorts around the bar where you can dance with your partner more casually - and if you want more room. This past Saturday there was also a live band that was very good. The energy and atmosphere was fantastic - very lively and open. Admittedly it can be a bit intimidating if you aren't an experienced Salsa dancer, but we were both new to Salsa making plenty of mistakes and nobody seemed to care. On one other note - parking is very easy since this is sort of off the beaten path west of Broadway. We actually got street parking very easy when we showed up early. In addition, if you want to take a break and head to regular night club hip-hop/techno dancing Club Vinyl is less than a 5 minute walk down Broadway. I'd recommend Thursday or Saturday at La Rumba. A lot of fun.

If you head out to la rumba on a Friday night you'll be in for a differnt experience than other evenings. The Friday night party goes by the name of Lip Gloss and offers CD listening promotions and lots of dancing. The music selection ranges from Brit Pop Punk to early Hip Hop mixes and 90's classics you don't want to admit knowing all the words to. The flooor seethes with happy people pumping their bodies with great drink specials. You don't have to break the bank for $2 PBR or Gin&Tonic with decent to heavy pours. The atmosphere is open, with lots of lounge style seating surrounding a huge dance floor. Purple and red lights dimly light the huge dance space, while a brighter lit bar is highlighted by a huge angled mirror which allows for people like me to enjoy the view of those around them subtley. Definitely worth a visit on Friday night and no cover before 10pm.

I have been a going to La Rumba for 6 years to dance to the hot and spicey salsa beats. The club is under new ownership and going down. They are not enforcing the dress code, undesirables are coming in and have rude behavior. I noticed most of the die hard La Rumba dance go'ers have taken to some other salsa club. I was disappointed to see that it is losing it's classy appeal!
