After a horrible, horrible experience at The Furniture Room, I cancelled most of my order with them and re-ordered three chairs and an ottoman from Room & Board. I have shopped at Room & Board for years but probably under appreciated them until now. It was so easy. I knew what items I wanted before I went to the store but definitely needed a designer to help me with fabric selection. I found the employees helpful and knowledgeable plus, follow-up was exceptional. They didn?t get my business and then forget about me. The custom ordered items arrived within five weeks. As a comparison, I ordered a sofa, a cocktail table and an end table from The Furniture Room in October and it is now March and I have just been informed it may be another six weeks before I receive anything. If you are skeptical of Room and Board?s prices because they are located in Cherry Creek, don?t be. There are many fabulous pieces at Room and Board that are affordable, meaning way below the usual astronomical Cherry Creek prices.

It's hard to find excellent customer service these days. Room & Board is an exception that way. They're based in Minnesota, that land of hard-working, second-generation northern European immigrants who believe that service is just as important as the product delivered. Those stubborn folk have now been joined by the new wave of hard-working and smart immigrant communities -- Hmong, Somalis, Canadians. But I digress. We have never had a bad experience with Room & Board, and we've bought a household full of furniture from them. Everyone from their salespeople, to their delivery people, to their repair folk are engaged, exceeding thoughtful, and accommodating. (The company must be doing something right if their employees stay for a long time. One of the women I've talked with at the warehouse here in Denver has worked there for over 10 years.)We love modern pieces, and DWR is simply too expensive for us. R&B offers truly high-quality furniture at reasonable prices. They are a good value. Everything has lasted and held up over several years.Ikea has some nice, funky, surprisingly cheap stuff, but everything breaks so quickly! Or at least the things I've bought have. Can't speak for everyone. When you pull up in R&B's Cherry Creek parking lot, be prepared to see a lot of Touaregs, Audi A4s, and a handful of Priuses. The salespeople do not work on commission, so you won't get pressured to buy something you don't really like. That's very refreshing.

What makes a furniture store on of the "best?" In my mind it is offering a good selection of quality furniture in a variety of styles at a price that is affordable to most.
