Still the Most Authentic in Denver

Posted byden123on 1/15/2009

We've been going to J's for 10 years. My uncle is Thai and he used to cook for us all the time. This place is definitely authentic, not Americanized like Swing Thai, Spicy Basil or Tuk Tuk (I never trust any Asian or Hispanic restaurant that does multiple ethnicities). Sure, the food has changed (very slightly, usually in the sweetness level) a couple of times over the years as the cooks change, but it is still the most authentic Thai in town. We've tried pretty much everything and we are never disappointed. I agree with the other reviewer that the focus is on the food, b/c no, this is not the kind of place one goes into for ambience. It's simply decorated, but clean and always offers friendly and efficient service.

Focus is on quality food

To be sure, J's is not the most romantic locale in the city. Okay, it may be the least. But that's not why you should visit J's. This is Denver - not DC, San Francisco, or Chiang Mai - so we just don't have consistently great Thai food, but it comes as close as possible to the real thing in this town. The staff is incredibly friendly, the portions are reasonable (read: not disgustingly huge) and the food is fabulous. As with most Thai restaurants, they'll tone it down unless you ask for the chiles. J's is a great spot to dine with a focus on the food, but take your longtime sweetie rather than a first date, unless that date was a Peace Corps volunteer. J's never disappoints!

Amazing Food, No Ambience

J's is amazing. The food is great, service and staff are fantastic! However, they would be a great candidate for a decorating makeover. The Panang Curry is awesome. Portions are not huge, but that is why Thais are not usually obese and Americans are.

j's will always be my favorite food in denver

inconsistent

I lived with several Thai roommates for several years, so authentic Thai food isn't foreign to me, but I'd say that good food is inconsistent and somewhat foreign to J's. I've had several dish's that were extremely good (one of them, the 3 spiced fish) and a couple others that the quality of the ingredients and quantity/value of the dish ruined my dining experience to wanting to go back.
