Gaia Bistro is tucked off the street in an old victorian house that has been converted into a special restaurant, set in the middle of the garden that procuces a large percentage of the restaurants produce during peak season. I love this place for its dedication to the local only fresh produce meats, dairy and as you read through the incredibly deverse menu (For a breafast and lunch place) you realize that the dedication to tasty affordable food is real here. The coffe is the best you will find in Denver and the patio dinning makes me feel like I am in Paris at a streetside cafe. The service is freindly, fast and you feel like they want you to be there. Check out the monthly wine dinners - OMG they are incredible.

Simple to say the least, the fast food of breakfast bistro. If you?re in walking distance go for it! It's worth the walk. But don?t drive. The food is decent, the people are not, the attitude of the employees make you wish you were somewhere else. Don't take time out of your day to check it out. -dfc

If you live in the neighborhood, this is a nice place to have breakfast, but I wouldn't make a big effort to get here. The food is very good. I've tried a variety of dishes and have enjoyed them all. The reason for my hesitation is the service. It is S-L-O-W and a little too sassy - and not the good kind of sassy. Every time I've eaten there, I get the feeling that they just have more customers then can handle, and they don't seem happy about it. The space is very small and you will be sitting very close to the tables next to you in kind of uncomfortable seats. You may want to bring your own cup of Joe. They serve their coffee in a French press, which I normally love, but they still haven?t figured out the proper grind for the presses ? it tastes over extracted. The espresso drinks are good, however. Despite these facts, if you live in the neighborhood, you know that we don?t have many breakfast/brunch options since Lola departed (still haven?t gotten over that one) so this isn?t a bad choice. If you bring your newspaper and relax while you wait (and you will wait) for your meal or get to know some of your neighbors, you will probably have a pleasant morning.

Great hidden gem for breakfast and lunch. Very fresh, locally grown vegetables with wonderful specials and personal service. The owner is funny, friendly, and accomodating. Best place to eat on Old South Pearl!

I just realized I've not reviewed Gaia despite eating there almost weekly. This gem in the Platt Park neighborhood (that's where Sushi Den is to you uninitiated) is probably the best breakfast in Denver (except if you're looking for greasy diner breakfast, but that's another subject entirely). They do fantastic crepes (both sweet and savory), egg dishes, hot drinks, granola...I could go on. Last weekend I noticed a new egg dish on the menu...baked eggs. To die for. They grow loads of veggies out back, so during the spring-fall, odds are that much of what's in your dish came from the backyard. They bake their own bread (you even get a bit of that day's freshest creation for free while you're trying to decide what to eat). If it hasn't been made clear yet, they are VERY conscientious about their ingredients - organics, locally sourced where possible, etc, and you can taste the difference in their food. The outside seats are the most coveted most of the year and often you'll encounter a wait (and they don't take reservations). It's fantastic.
