Awesome specialty pet store (and dog wash) in Denver!

Posted bygoldensruleon 6/12/2009

After I adopted a young Golden Retriever, she and I visited a number of places around town to find a good self serve dog wash - including several well known national chains and a couple of other local Denver places. As soon as we stepped paw into Chewy's Bonetique, we knew we had found the perfect place. Chewy's staff greeted my dog first, really listened to what I was looking for, let my dog take her time getting used to the new experience (rather than trying to rush us in and out as I had seen at other shops), and truly made the bath (with treats!) an enjoyable visit. This "four-paw" treatment hasn't diminished with subsequent visits - you're treated just as well on your 20th visit as your first. They also bathe dogs by appointment if you'd like - great after a fun weekend in the mountains, the dog park or at Cherry Creek - or before the in-laws come to visit! Chewy's also has a wonderful selection of premium, high quality food, treats, toys, collars, leashes, harnesses and beds (plus equally high quality items for cats) - things you won't find at the big mass retailers. My Golden loves to sniff out the new toys and treats that have arrived since her last visit. Most of the products are personally tested by Julie (the owner) and her dogs, and she welcomes customer feedback on all the products she offers. She proudly features local Colorado manufacturers and does a lot to support the local community as well as dog rescue groups. If you're looking for great quality, unique selections at fair prices and a staff that genuinely cares about the wellbeing of your pet, check out Chewy's!

Best little dog shop!!!

If you love your dog, you'll love shopping at Chewy's. They have a great selection of all the best foods, and are always on top of the newest food choices available. The owner is very knowledgeable, keeps up on the latest issue of The Whole Dog Journal, and helps me choose food and treats for my hard-to-please poodles and their sensitive stomachs. She does a great job of balancing her inventory with raw, canned and kibble choices to please all, and does not hesitate to pull a food if she determines their ingredients are not what they used to be. Some choices may seem expensive, but keep in mind the quality of the food you are getting. Great selection of toys, collars and leashes and beds too, and you can always have the great, caring staff give your dog a bath, or you can do it yourself. Regarding referrals to inadequate doggy day care-if there is a day care out there that is not doing a good job, I am sure not only the staff at Chewy's but also Denver's dog community would like to know about it!

Products are OVERPRICED!!

I stopped in there for some Rescue Remedy and had a look around. None of the raw frozen foods or bags of food had any prices on them! When I asked the salesperson, she said that all the prices are kept in a book. Of course there was a line of folks waiting to check out the prices in this book so I skipped it. It makes you wonder why they don't list the prices? Is it because they don't turn the product over quickly, or they don't want you to keel over in the store from sticker shock? After I did some research on the product I purchased, I discovered that I had paid three times the price of what other local retailers sell it for. It wasn't even the animal version and contains 27% alcohol! Do your research on what the items should retail for unless you don't care about the price! That place is EXPENSIVE!!

Chew's Bonetique gets Four Paws!

While Chewy's may be a bit more on the pricey side you must remember that all of their food products are natural and healthy for your dog/cat. Almost all of their food that they sale is human grade pet food (meaning: that it meets the USDA's requirements for people food). there was a review stating that they do not have 40 lb. bags and that is absolutely untrue as I have prchased many of the 40lb bags from them. They are very knowledgable about all of the products that they sell and if there is something you would like that they do not have in stock, they will try to order it for you. In response to being money Hungry: Money hungry businesses DO NOT give away FREE anything, no matter how big or small, cheap or expensive. I have gone there many times and was given multiple bags of food samples, treats, toys and frozen yougurt for my boxer. (who is always welcomed there). So even if it is $6 dollars more, I will pay it because they are kind and take the time to let you know you are appreciated there. I have easily gotten more than $6 back from all the goodies they have given my dog. Plus you buy ten bags of food the next is free-I don't see money hungry, I see a business doing what businesses do.
