Denver's Best Used and Vintage Clothing Stores
Deep Discounts On Worn Threads
Thrift shopping has always been a necessity to some and a hobby for others. With the economy struggling, it's become more popular than usual as a great way to save money and still get quality goods. Still, you've got to separate the good from the trash and these stores do a wonderful job of providing you with quality pieces and wonderfully discounted prices.
1. Cajun's Closet
Hidden away just off 6th past Sheridan, Cajun's Closet is the greatest non-profit thrift store that hardly anyone's heard of. Room after room is packed full of everything from clothing to books to small household accessories. Other than general sorting by item type, the rooms tend to be pretty stuffed to the brim, making hunting for something that you like a bit difficult. While prices are already amazingly low, they can go even lower: check Cajun's website for a 50% discount coupon and look into their special discount days. Profits from the shop go to the Cat Care Society, a group dedicated to making sure that no cat is euthanized because of limited space in shelters.
2. Your Best Friend's Closet
Specializing in upscale used clothing, Your Best Friend's Closet is more expensive than generic thrift stores but its clothes are much nicer and in overall better shape. On the sale racks are dresses, shirts, pants and accessories from top-notch designers that look like new but are much more affordable than their original price tags. This Congress Park consignment store is definitely intended for women in their 30s and 40s, though those in their 20s may still find some great pieces for work.
3. Arc Thrift Stores
Super low discounts are the rule at the Arc Thrift Stores chain, with shops along the Front Range from Fort Collins to Pueblo. This is a fairly utilitarian thrift store, so you'll find a bit of everything in states ranging from just like new to almost ready to be tossed. With a bit of digging and a good eye, you're almost sure to find something to take home. As you buy, you're doing something good for the community as well. Profits go to funding projects for developmentally disabled adults and children. Even better, an Arc store is always nearby: Denver alone has four locations not counting those in nearby suburbs.
4. Regal Vintage
Long story short, fashions from the 1920s up through the 1990s fill Regal Vintage to nearly overflowing and every visit yields new surprises and bargains. From stunning dresses to eclectic pairs of shoes to vintage furniture, there's a little bit of everything. Price tags are very reasonable, and sometimes you'll find a really great deal if you look hard enough. It's bit of a drive from most of the city, located south of I-25 on South Broadway, but if fashion from the past is your thing, the trip is worth your while.
5. Buffalo Exchange
With all the attitude and style you'd expect of the used clothing epicenter of Denver's hipster crowd, the Buffalo Exchange has its client base and isn't interested in much else. If you're looking for skinny jeans and designer shirts to fit into the scene, Cap Hill's Buffalo Exchange is perfect, though it's on the pricier side of thrift stores in the area, considering what you get. The prices are not exorbitant, though neither are they very low. Should you not be into the hipster way of life, the Buffalo Exchange might still be a great spot to hit if you're looking to complete a costume ensemble; at times there are some pretty unusual things on the racks. Bring in your old clothes for cash back or store credit, but know that the buyers can be oddly picky about what they'll accept.
