Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Unlike many popular mountain towns, Glenwood Springs is known for its water, not its peaks. The natural hot springs that give Glenwood its appeal are incredibly comfortable and relaxing in the midst of summer, when the evenings still carry a chill. At the Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park, water takes on a completely different aspect, becoming the obstacle to be conquered at this man-made Colorado River attraction. At Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, daredevils can head under the ground to explore fascinating caves. Above the caves, the park has a huge variety of games and activities that can keep youngsters occupied for hours.
Stay at the historic Hotel Colorado for a luxurious overnight experience. The hotel's comfortable rooms are enhanced by the on-site restaurant, gym and spa as well as free wi-fi in every room. Hotel Denver is another of Glenwood Springs's historic buildings, with wings of both historic and newly added rooms. For dinner, head to the highly popular (and fairly pricey) Juicy Lucy's Steakhouse. For those who would rather indulge with carbs than protein, check out Italian Underground.
Glenwood Springs is situated between Vail and Aspen just off of I-70. Even if you're planning a long day's adventure at either resort and not Glenwood Springs, Glenwood's hot springs are open until 10 at night and might just be the perfect nighttime stop. The Vail/Eagle County Airport (EGE) is about 27 miles away and the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is about 37 miles to the south, though driving from Denver to Glenwood Springs along I-70 will be a much cheaper travel alternative.
