Denver's Best Fitness Centers
Put Your Body in High Gear
When you're ready to commit to getting yourself fit, whether it's for swimsuit season or just so you feel better day-to-day, it's important to find a fitness routine that will match your needs. From the usual workout machines to hardcore training regimes, our city has the facilities to help you get in shape and stay that way. This time around, make a commitment to your health and sign up with one of these centers to make sure that you can work out however and whenever you want.
1. Genesis Fitness Center
Need to get in top-notch condition in the shortest time possible? The boot camps put on by Genesis Fitness Center could very well be your best option. Not for those with a passing interest in getting in shape or motivation that fades quickly, these five-day to five-week programs are incredibly challenging but also intensely rewarding. Each class runs between an hour and 75 minutes long, and depending on your fitness level and the class, you'll either end out comfortably worn out or physically exhausted. Two facilities, in Capitol Hill and in the Tech Center, ensure that there will be a location either near your work or near your home with convenient program hours to fit your schedule.
2. 20th Street Gymnasium
Despite brand new equipment and plenty of different group classes, the 20th Street Gymnasium remains fairly desolate, perhaps due to its nickname “The House of Pain.” Wait. Don't be scared off by the sound of the place, the name just comes from its boxing amenities, including the predominant boxing ring. There are plenty of things to do other than one-on-one sparring, including swimming at the indoor pool, weight lifting and cardio workouts. Check out the lineup of weekly group workouts, which have programs for everyone from seniors to female boxers to young swimmers. Other than the group in the cardio room, the gym tends to be very male-dominated, though you won't feel uncomfortable no matter who you are.
3. Seasons Mind & Body Fitness
Taking a multi-pronged approach at getting into shape, Seasons Mind & Body Fitness specializes in combination spin and yoga classes that will get your heart pumping and mind relaxed. Two locations, in Five Points and in City Park, provide double the room to get fit, but the Five Points facility is the only one with drop-in classes. With a combo membership you can head to either of its two centers for any lesson and no additional fee. If you're planning on working out a fair bit, this membership is definitely worth the price. Other programs will help you get ready for any competition you might be gearing up for, whether it's a 10K run or a triathlon, though some do come with an additional lump-sum fee.
4. Matrix Fitness & Spa
If you really mean to get in shape and are willing to spend the money to do it in the best way possible, Matrix Fitness & Spa is a superb gym to sign up with. Little touches like a LCD touch-screen with satellite television and Internet access in each cardio machine and on-site covered parking in the busy Cap Hill neighborhood make going to the gym an indulgence instead of a chore. That's not where the extras end either. At Matrix you get more than just the usual lineup of weights and machines; you have the opportunity to drop in on any number of intensive classes, access to personal trainers and discounted rates at the full-service spa. When you are done with your workout, the steam room gives you the perfect place to rest up and there are plenty of products in the locker rooms to get you looking your best even after hard exercise.
5. Vital Yoga
The only type of exercise available is yoga, but whether you've tried it and loved it or tried it and been less than impressed, give the classes at Vital Yoga a shot. With your first week of attendance free of charge, how can you justify saying no? After even one or two workouts, you'll find yourself feeling more relaxed and refreshed, as well as more flexible and stronger with time. Offering somewhere between three and eight 60- to 90-minute classes every day, there will be plenty of programs that will suit both your fitness level and your day. Other than the primary facility in the Highland neighborhood, there are also Vital Yoga studios in Cherry Creek and out in Golden. Check out the one nearest you and see if yoga can help you improve everyday life.
