Starz FilmCenter
Experience the full power of cinema as art, lesson and tale at the Starz FilmCenter, where the range of films shown is only constrained by what can make a great movie. Movies shown at the center range from enlightening to exciting: each offers something new to think about and explore long after the screen goes black. Though the theater only lights up Wednesday through Sunday, the theater shows a stunningly huge variety of movies, thanks to its seven screens and frequent special events.
Most popular amongst these events is the annual Starz Denver Film Festival. This much-praised event runs in November and shows literally dozens of movies over the course of a week and a half. Other fun events happen more frequently, like the double features of Old School New School and the documentary filmmaker appearances at DocNight. If you're old enough, you can accompany your show with a beer. Just make sure it doesn't fall through the drink holder as they are wont to do.
Even the day-to-day films shown at the theater are fascinating: featuring everything from exceptional Hollywood films to low budget but equally stellar independent movies. Most of the headline movies at Starz are really only suitable for adults, either rated R or simply documentaries that won't be appealing to many kids. There are exceptions, however, such as the Saturday afternoon Nickelodeon series, which runs family-friendly movies free of charge.
Dedicated not only to the cinematic arts, Starz has taken a lead in promoting community and local businesses as well. In the past, it has done everything from premiering Denver-filmed and produced movies like Ink to hosting events for groups including Colorado Youth at Risk. With a membership subscription, you can get significant discounts on your movie tickets as well as special event invitations and early ticket deals for in-demand films.
