Breckenridge, Colorado
A wonderful summer destination for the whole family, there are exciting activities for visitors of all ages and abilities. Children and families will love a trip to the fun park. A climbing wall, a huge maze, a huge downhill slide and other activities can keep kids busy all day long. Get a taste of winter at the indoor ice rink or go exploring the underground with a guided tour of the Country Boy Mine. Paddleboats, hot air balloon rides and horseback rides are only some of the ways to get out and be active with the whole family.
For adventurous adults, there are plenty of exhilarating outdoor activities to take part in. Mile after mile of off-road and paved trails offer paths for bikers of any ability. ATV and Jeep tours give an incredible adrenaline rush along with sights of mountain areas hard to reach on foot. Golfing and fly-fishing offer calmer, though still entertaining, outdoor recreation.
As with all resort towns, there are abundant dining options ranging from cheap bar food to expensive meals in historic buildings. Hearthstone Restaurant is one of the latter, serving Western-inspired and traditional American dishes like blackberry elk and center cut New York steak in a 19th century Victorian house. Alternately, be a ski bum for an evening and drop in on Downstairs at Eric's for fantastic pizza, juicy burgers and an absurdly large lineup of beers.
To get to Breckenridge, driving or catching a shuttle from Denver is the most popular and convenient choice. It is possible to fly to the Eagle County Regional Airport near Vail and drive the 70 miles from there, but you only save 30 miles of driving and add the inconvenience of air travel.
